Pet Food Ingredients Provenance / Rosemary

We have recently been made aware of a possible link between the ingestion of rosemary and reproductive disorders in humans. In large quantities, it has been claimed that rosemary oil can cause intestinal irritation and cramping, thus representing a possible risk during pregnancy.
Rosemary extract is included in the Arden Grange recipes as an antioxidant in order to naturally stabilise the fat components of the diets. In addition to providing an alternative to chemical preservatives, recent studies have demonstrated that rosemary may reduce the risk of cancers in animals by up to 50%. It also acts as a muscle relaxant and may help to alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort.
As manufacturers of super premium pet foods, Arden Grange take any matters concerning health and nutrition extremely seriously. Having researched this subject, we are pleased to report that the concentration of rosemary used in our pet foods is well below any possible risk threshold. In addition,the extraction technique for obtaining the antioxidants from rosemary is quite different to that used when preparing essential oils (from which the concerns arose).
Fresh rosemary leaves contain a much higher proportion of the active components, and no human (or animal) has so far shown reproductive failures, even in the Mediterranean where herbs such as rosemary are used in the kitchen at high levels.
