Doggy iced gems and sweetheart biscuits

Do you remember these old-school classic treats? Well, it's time to go down memory lane with a twist. That's right we've got a tasty recipe for iced gem and sweetheart biscuit dog treats. Created by our very own nutritional advisor and registered Vet Nurse, Ness. Our recipe is super simple to make using just 5 ingredients, your dog is sure to love these home-made treats.

Base ingredients

1 large egg

400g can of unsweetened pumpkin puree

2 table spoons of smooth (xylitol-free) peanut butter

Gluten-free flour (200g gluten free flour for a cookie type base and 300g for a harder, biscuity base.)

Optional decoration

1 tube of Tasty Paste

Plain yogurt drops (make sure they are dog-safe and contain no artificial sweeteners or cocoa powder)

Natural food colouring (we suggest pink!)

Method
  1. Whisk up a large egg, 400g can of unsweetened pumpkin puree and 2 table spoons of smooth (xylitol-free) peanut butter.
  2. Slowly add gluten-free flour until the mixture becomes dough-like and you can roll it out onto a lightly floured surface to cut into shapes.
  3. Divide the mixture in half and use small canape shape cutters to create little circles for the iced gems, and little hearts for the sweethearts.
  4. Bake at about 180 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.
Decoration for ice gems

When the cookies are cool, "ice" the little circles with our Tasty Paste.

Decoration for sweetheart biscuits
  1. Melt some plain yogurt drops (make sure they are dog-safe and contain no artificial sweeteners or cocoa powder) in the microwave or over a bain-marie on the stove.
  2. Use 1-2 drops of natural food colouring (we suggest pink) and add a little coconut oil if the mixture is too sticky.
  3. Carefully dunk the little hearts so they are half covered and leave to set.
Top tips
  • If the dough is too soft, use more flour on the work surface for rolling and it will absorb in.
  • Bases can be frozen and then decorated after defrosting.
  • Treats should be fed in moderation.
