Get started with grain free goodness

Our precious pups rely on us to give them the care they need and deserve, and part of that care involves making the right choices. Which can involve big decisions, such as what they eat!

That’s why we’re here to help with some useful points to keep in mind, whether you have been recommended to swap to a grain free diet or are simply curious about feeding a grain free diet to your four-legged friend.

But remember, if you are planning to change your dog’s diet due to any health concerns, it’s always best to consult your vet, to ensure you’re meeting your pet’s individual needs.

What is grain free dog food?

Grain free dog food is just what is says on the pack, a dog food which doesn’t include any grains, such as wheat, barley and oats.

What is in the recipe if there are no grains?

Instead of grains, we use sweet potato and tapioca. These low sodium, complex carbohydrates provide a steady and reliable alternative energy source for dogs.

What is the difference between grain free and gluten free food?

Grain free and gluten free dog food should not be confused. Gluten free has no grains containing gluten, which is a protein that can be found in some cereals. However, it may still contain other grains. Grain free on the other hand contains no grains whatsoever.

What are the benefits of swapping to grain free food?

There may be benefits of feeding a grain free diet that suits your pet:

  • Grain free diets can help settle digestive issues
Eliminating grains can help to settle the digestion in dogs who have developed a sensitivity to certain cereals. It is often difficult to pinpoint the culprit ingredient/s, so excluding all grains may be the solution if you suspect your dog may be sensitive to such ingredients.

  • Sustained energy
By decreasing the amount of processed grain your dog is consuming, you can reduce blood sugar spikes, followed by lethargic crashes your dog might experience on a lower quality, cereal dense diet. Our food contains only a low level of naturally occurring simple sugars, allowing for a slow and steady release of energy throughout the day.

  • Better skin
Our  diets are packed with healthful ingredients to support sensitive skin. These include krill, a source of omega-3 essential fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties. Our grain free diet also benefits from rosehips, which may help to strengthen and stabilise cell membranes.

  • Healthier coat
As all of our dry food diets contain omega-3, you may notice your dog is flaunting a more luxurious coat. Whether it’s due to the reduction of grains or the benefits of the other healthy ingredients included in the recipe.
Can my puppy eat grain free?

Yes, your puppy can eat grain free. They will, however, still need a diet which includes optimal vitamins and minerals to help fuel their growth. Our grain free puppy/junior chicken & superfoods diet is perfect for precious pups from weaning.

My dog eats regular food, how do I swap to grain free?

If your dog is experiencing a reaction to their ‘regular’ food, this could be either itchy skin or tummy distress, consult your vet and discuss whether you should try feeding a grain free diet to help alleviate these issues. In cases where food is thought to be exacerbating a health condition, ceasing the current diet as quickly as possible may be advisable.

If you’re just intrigued to see if your dog enjoys eating grain free meals, you can use our recommended feeding pattern for a successful diet change.
