There is an important difference between ‘fussiness’ and ‘inappetence’. The former has its roots in behaviour while a
sudden loss of appetite could be a sign your pet is experiencing dental
problems, illness or pain.
Owners should always seek veterinary advice to establish if
a medical condition is responsible (this is especially important in cats as
their health can decline rapidly if they stop eating).
If your pet is not unwell or underweight as a result of the
issue, you are most likely to be looking at a behavioural rather than a medical
problem, but always err on the side of caution and speak to your vet if you are
worried.
