Stabilisation of Arden Grange pet foods
Arden Grange dry pet foods are naturally preserved to prevent the fats and oils from oxidising and becoming rancid. Without a preservative of some kind, the products would have a very short shelf-life (a matter of days, which would not be viable for our stockists and customers).
The Arden Grange dry foods and treats are stabilized using mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E) providing a shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture.
The Arden Grange canned foods and our Tasty Pastes do not require any preservatives because they are sterilised when they are cooked in the tin/tube respectively.
Providing care is taken with storage, our products will retain their freshness and nutritional value until the best before date (which you will find printed on the top of the bag or base of the can). Some owners are concerned about the safety of the synthetic antioxidants such as ethoxyquin, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). These preservatives are often added to pet foods, but this isn't always clear as they are usually declared as 'Antioxidants' rather than specified. They can also be added to the raw materials before these ingredients are incorporated into the pet food, and therefore do not need to be listed on the label. Arden Grange are pleased to declare that mixed tocopherols are used to preserve our raw materials and our finished products.
Arden Grange pet foods are hypoallergenic and contain no wheat, gluten, dairy products, beef or soya. Nor do they contain any artificial colourings, flavourings and preservatives.
None of our ingredients are genetically modified.
